Behind the Camera
I cannot remember a time when I was not interested in filmmaking. As a youngster, I was amazed at the sheer number of names and tasks involved in creating the final film. While I watched, I wondered where I could fit into that web of wonderment.
After the 100th viewing of Mary Poppins, I was infatuated with how this masterpiece was woven together. This infatuation solidified in high school when I won “Best Documentary” (Student) for Bulletproof Karma at the Boulder International Film Festival (2016). It was in that moment I realized editing was my calling.
After moving to Chicago for college, I was hired as a video editor my first week by Columbia College Chicago’s Student Communications Department (StuCom) where I worked for four years and rose to become the senior editor. I edited dozens of videos at StuCom, including event promos, department overviews, student profiles and Interviews with a professional. This four-year tenure is a good indication of who I am: loyal, dedicated, and love working as part of a creative team. During college, I also expanded my editing experience while interning as an assistant editor at Vision One Agency, where I was soon promoted to Senior Video Editor.
I value the balance between working hard and playing hard. Few things are better than enjoying a drink with my colleagues while the final edit renders.
I look forward to continuing to bring my skills to this ever-evolving industry.
